THE STORY OF ALSÓRÁKOS

In the Great Encyclopedia of Révai, (the Hungárián equivalent of the Encyclopedia Britannica) under the title of Alsórákos, the following may be read: „Alsórákos, a large village in the county of Big Küküllő (1900). Sixteen hundred fifty seven Hungarians live there, with credit unión, consumers' and sales cooperatives; a train station, post office and telegraph office. György Sükösdi built its castle in 1624; the embossing on the Knight's hall is from the 17^ century. The bell of the Reformed Church is from 1498. On the nearby peak of Topé, which is 882 meters high, a fort stood in the past."

Our main source of recent information is from Dr.Barna Imreh. The book called History of Alsórákos was published in 1968. The beauty of the area so charmed the soul of the writer of The Land of Székelys (pronounced „seykey", meaning a special group of Hungarian-speaking people inhabiting that part of Transylvania) that he devoted almost ten pages to Alsórákos
